For years, founders compared Pulley and Carta as rival cap table tools. On September 15, 2026 that changed: Pulley announced it will shut down and hand customers to Carta.
So the real question is now what you get if you follow Pulley to Carta, and what else is available.
Pulley is closing, and Carta is the default destination
Pulley's shutdown FAQ sets the terms.
- Pulley ceases operations on December 8, 2026.
- Limited data access continues until January 31, 2027.
- Customers who want the Carta offer must opt in by November 30, 2026.
- Pulley will not help migrations to any other provider.
Pulley's plans and Carta's transition terms differ in four ways
| Pulley (until Dec 8, 2026) | Carta via transition | Capable | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Startup $1,200/yr; Growth $3,500/yr | Pulley rate for year one, then Carta pricing | Startup $1,200/yr; Growth $3,500/yr, held while subscribed |
| Stakeholder limits | 25 on Startup, 40 on Growth | Carta tiers | Unlimited |
| Monthly billing | Offered on some plans | Not offered | $120 or $350 a month |
| 409A | 2 a year on Growth | Accepts Pulley's 409A as-is | Records any 409A; order separately |
| Migration | n/a | Carta team, after opt-in and a new agreement | Self-serve import or free done-for-you within 24 hours |
| AI access | None | Claude plugin, read-only cap table | Claude and ChatGPT connector with approval-gated writes |

Price: the match lasts twelve months
Carta honours your Pulley rate in year one and credits unused prepaid balances. Year two is priced by Carta.
Carta does not publish prices. Vendr reports a median Carta contract of $15,400 a year, against Pulley's Growth price of $3,500.
Billing: monthly plans become quarterly or annual
If you paid Pulley monthly, expect a larger up-front payment on Carta. Carta does not offer monthly billing, per Pulley's FAQ.
409A: Carta accepts what you have
Carta will accept Pulley's existing 409A and support its defense. That removes one reason to rush a new valuation.
A 409A generally stays in its safe harbor for up to 12 months, unless a material event such as a priced round happens first. See what a 409A valuation is.
Migration: Carta's team, after a new agreement
Opting in shares your contact and contract details with Carta, which then sends migration details and a new agreement. The migration happens after you sign.
Ask Carta three questions before November 30
- What will my renewal price be in year two, at the headcount I plan to reach?
- Which features in my Pulley plan are in the Carta plan I am moving to?
- What is the cancellation process if I leave after year one?
Capable is the option that keeps Pulley's terms
Capable was built for Pulley customers who want to keep what worked.
- Pulley's prices, held for as long as you stay subscribed.
- Unlimited stakeholders instead of 25 or 40.
- Monthly billing if you want it.
- A self-serve importer that reconciles against Pulley's Ownership tab.
- A free done-for-you migration within 24 hours.
- A 30-day free trial with everything unlocked for companies importing from Pulley, Carta or AngelList.
Which should you choose?
Choose the Carta transition if you want the largest vendor, need a transfer agent or fund administration, and are comfortable with quote-based pricing from year two.
Choose Capable if you want Pulley's prices without a year-two change, no stakeholder cap, monthly billing, and a migration you can run and check yourself.
